Description

Children's Day celebration is the tribute to childhood. Children's Day is to remind all young and adults about children's right to enjoy their childhood without any restrictions to be an educated grown-up in the future. The values and disciplines learned as a child are imperative for the kind of person one becomes.

14 November every year is celebrated as Children's Day all over the country. This date has special significance as it is also the birthday of India's first Prime Minister, Pt. Jawahar Lal Nehru, who was very fond of children. Pt. Nehru was very particular about the progress of the Indian youth. He wanted to create responsible citizens out of young boys and girls.

Every Year, India Post organises 'Design a Stamp' contest and winning entries are selected for depiction on Stamp, First Day Cover and Information Brochure. The same are released on Children's Day. The theme of the competition this year was 'A Holiday'. Children have used their imagination  and  creativity  to  depict  enchanting holiday moments which remain embossed in their minds as precious memories.

Holidays are associated with the vivid feelings of happiness, connectedness, discovery, laughter and love. With life so busy these days, it is important to allow children the time  to relax, to dream, to break from schedule, to play, discover and connect with friends and family. This also broadens the horizons of children and opens their mind to new learning.

This year's stamp is based on a painting made by 'Mayouri Sarma'. The First Day Cover and Information Brochure are based on the paintings made by 'Rupsa Sen Gupta' and 'Salvya S. Raj' respectively.

Department of Posts reaffirm its commitment to the future citizens of our country by issuing a Commemorative Postage Stamp on Children 's Day.
