The Universal  Children's  Day  is observed on November 14 every year, the birthday of 'Chacha Nehru' our first Prime Minister whose love and affection for children was the delight of  every  parent and  an  inspiration  to  all.

On this day, as we renew our social and moral commitment towards the needs and rights of children, we are reminded that children are our greatest source of future wealth and their well being and growth is of prime importance to the building of a strong  nation.

Children need us as we need them. Every child is a distinct individual for whom guidance in childhood is a preparation for life's career and citizenship and development of character leads to success and happiness in life. Keeping this in mind, children should remain the focus of all our activities and receive our undivided attention.

As a hobby which starts in childhood, stamp collecting has a worldwide fascination. It is  a hobby that makes children more aware about what is happening  in the world around us and helps them to grow in life.

Paintings by children are a colourful expression of their creativity. Every year a special postage stamp is issued on Children's Day carrying a design which is usually based on a painting done by a child. This year the Department of Posts is happy to bring out a special postage stamp which is based on a painting by Namrata Amit Shah and a First Day Cover which depicts the painting of Apte Girish Jayant.
