SARASWATI Under the auspices of Bharatiya Rashtra Bhasha Prachar Samiti, a  World  Hindi  Convention  is being held at Nagpur in Maharashtra from 10th to 14th January, 1975. The Sammelan would  not only highlight the significant role of Hindi in the global context and evaluate its growing achievements and possibilities, but  also  provide  a forum for stimulating a cultural renaissance based on the sublime aim of "our world is one family".

Foreign scholars from Hindi centres abroad and dignitaries in the field of politics and letters from countries with large populations of Indian origin will participate in the Convention as delegates. Indian Posts and Telegraphs Department is happy to issue a commemorative postage stamp to mark this occasion.

The stamp depicts the photograph of a 12th century image of Saraswati who is considered as the presiding deity for language and learning. This sculpture which belongs to the Chauhan era has been obtained by the National Museum, Delhi, from Bikaner. In the background are excerpts from Rigvedic hymns, the poetical works of renowned Hindi poets and the burden of Rashtrabhasha Prachar Geet interspersed with mathematical formula to represent growing modernisation of the language of a developing nation. The inscription concludes with "Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam", the motto of the World Hindi Convention.
