Mahatma Gandhi was assassinated on 30th January, 1948. The country paid its homage to the 'Father of the Nation' by bringing out a set of four stamps on 15th August 1948, to coincide with the First Anniversary of Independence. These stamps bear the effigy of Mahatma Gandhi. Though an official First day Cover was issued, no official Regular folder was issued. However, an Information Brochure narrating Mahatma Gandhi's magnetic personality was issued by India Post. This brochure had the space for four mourning stamps issued on 15-8-1948. Philatelists mounted four stamps on this Brochure and got them First day cancelled. And hence popularly this is considered as Folder of Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Stamps of 15-8-1948. The same is presented here with due cancellation of Poona dated 15-8-1948.
