Raverend Doke

Reverend Doke became acquainted with Gandhi during the plague outbreak in Johannesburg. He was the Minister of the Johannesburg Baptist Church. He offered to resign from this position if his pro-Indian sympathies were unacceptable to his congregation. He and his wife nursed Gandhi after an assault on him in 1908. He edited ‘Indian Opinion’ in 1911 when Gandhi & Pollak were in Imprisonment.
