Mahatma Gandhi and Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore met for the 1st time at Shantiniketan on 5th March 1915. Tagore was already acclaimed world over as one of the fines poets ever. Gandhiji at that time was of lesser frame. He had made his name in South Africa and was about to launch himself into the maelstrom of the Indian public life and give it a new enriched meaning. Respectful of each other (addressing each other as Mahatma & Gurudev), they acknowledged each other's greetings and their love for the country and its people. However they differed deeply on many important issues and made no bones about it over a period of time. They learned to live with each other's views.
