The Himalayas, is a mountain range which separates the Great Indian Plains from the Tibetan Plateau. This range is home to nine of the ten highest peaks on the Earth, including the highest, Mount Everest. The abrupt rise of the Himalayan Mountains from less than 500 meters to more than 8,000 meters in a few hundred kilometers has resulted in a huge diversity of flora and fauna. Nearly 1000 birds have been recorded in the Himalayas of which 15 species are fully endemic.
The long-tailed broadbill (Psarisomus dalhousiae) is a species of broadbill found in the Himalayas, extending east through Northeastern India to Southeast Asia. It is the only bird indie genus Psarisomus. It is about 25 cm (10 inches) in length and weighs between 50 and 60 grams. It can be identified by its shrill call. The long-tailed broadbill is a forest bird that lives on insects. It is very sociable and normally travels in large, noisy parties except during the mating season. It builds a pear-shaped nest in a tree.
