Tripura Sundari Temple is situated on a small hillock in the ancient Udaipur, about 55 km from Agartala and is reported to have been built in 1501 A.D. by Maharaja Dhanya Manikya. It is dedicated to Mahashakti in her form as "Tripurasundari" and is considered to be one of the 51 Shakti Peethas'. The temple consists a square type sanctum with a conical dome typical like Bengali hut. It is popularly known as Matabari and is one of the holiest Hindu shrines in this part of the country. " It reflects Tripura's patronage of the Stupa-Sirsa style of architecture.
